What is the reason for the black generator coil

Author:

The main reasons for the black of the generator coil include the following:

Carbon brush wear: After the carbon brush inside the generator is worn, the carbon powder will fall on the generator stator, causing the coil to turn black.

Overheating: When the generator is working, the heating of the coil and the high temperature of the engine compartment will cause the insulation paint on the surface of the coil to change color.

Overload: The generator is overloaded or the interturn insulation drops to form a short circuit, which will cause the coil to turn black.

Voltage and current problems: If the voltage is too high or too low, or if the current is too high, it will cause the coil to heat up and short-circuit, which in turn will cause the coil to turn black.

Secondary causes of generator coil blackening include:

Copper smelting process problems: impurities in copper content are oxidized in contact with air during processing.

Environmental problems: The coil is in contact with moisture or friction during use, causing damage to the insulating layer.

Production technical problems: the production process of copper and air contact oxidation, or the use of poor insulation materials.

Annealing process problem: the annealing process is not well mastered, resulting in copper wire oxidation.

In summary, there are many reasons for blackening of generator coils, mainly including carbon brush wear, overheating, overload, and voltage and current problems. In addition, problems such as copper smelting process, use environment, production technology and annealing process will also cause the coil to turn black.
